📘 Our story
Irtaqi Institute started mainly for Qur’an memorisation by Sh. Dr. Mohamed Elsharkasi in October 2021 in the city of Glasgow. It began as a simple study circle with two students. Since then, it has witnessed significant growth in student numbers and expanded to include courses in Arabic and Islamic studies. The institute now includes students from several countries who are enroled in Qur'an classes and other courses offered at the institute.
Currently, the institute welcomes students interested in memorising the Qur’an according to the Qālūn ʿan Nāfiʿ and Hafs An Aasim narrations - both are among the ten authenticated qira’at (al-mutawātirah), and have several courses for those who wish to learn Arabic and Islamic studies. Through this institute, we strive to nurture Muslims upon the Islamic path and spread the Book of Allah in Glasgow and across the UK.
Mission and Vision
At Irtaqi, our mission is to teach the Qur’an in different Qira’at, along with Arabic and Islamic studies. We aim to expand to all ten qira’at and provide a deeper understanding of Islam. Our vision is to raise students who master recitation, learn the Arabic language, and live by the values of the Qur’an.

Who We Serve
We currently offer Qur’an classes for adult males, alongside other courses with specific eligibility for males and females. In the future, we plan to open more programmes to females In Sha Allah.
Our Team
Irtaqi works under the supervision of Sh Dr Mohamed Elsharkasi and have several teachers, each bringing years of experience in Qur’anic recitation, Arabic, and Islamic knowledge. Every student is carefully guided to progress at a pace suited to them.
