Course Description
These are private sessions designed for new Muslims, those wishing to reconnect with their faith, or anyone seeking to build a clear understanding of the core principles of Islam. The course covers essential beliefs and practices, providing students with a solid foundation to strengthen both knowledge and practice. This course charges admin fees only.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will:
Understand the Five Pillars of Islam and their role in daily life.
Comprehend the meaning of the Shahadah (declaration of faith).
Learn how to perform prayer (Salah) and ablution (Wudu) correctly.
Understand the concept of purity (Tahara) in worship.
Learn the rules and purpose of fasting (Sawm).
Recognise the importance of Zakat (charitable giving).
Gain an overview of Hajj and its significance.
Know the six articles of faith (Iman).
Study and reflect on Surat Al-Fatiha.
Identify what is halal and haram in food and drink.
Topics
1- The Five Pillars of Islam and their significance in daily life
2- The meaning and importance of the declaration of faith (Shahadah)
3- The obligation of compulsory prayers and an introduction to voluntary prayers
4- The concept of purity (Tahara) and its role in worship
5- Practical demonstration of ablution (Wudu)
6- Practical demonstration of prayer (Salah)
7- The rules and significance of compulsory fasting (Sawm)
8- The purpose and importance of charitable giving (Zakat)
9- The significance and main rituals of pilgrimage (Hajj)
10- The six articles of faith (Iman)
11- Study and reflection on the Opening chapter of the Qur’an (Surat Al-Fatiha)
12- Understanding what is halal and haram to eat and drink
Eligibility: Open to everyone aged 18 and above
Course leader: Br Abdulqader Naas.
Mode of delivery: Online or In-person at 83 Lister St, Glasgow G4 0BZ.
Duration: Five sessions (2 hours each) over two weeks.
Schedule/Start date: Sessions begin within a few days and are fully flexible. The confirmed start date will be arranged after registration.
